The only brand for sale in lfs near me is Carib-Sea Arag-alive....it is like $30 for 20lbs bag. My local rock yard and gravel supply has white sand in 50lb bags for $10...not sure if it is the same but both are very fine. The only issue I have with really fine sand is the potential ro get it sucked up into the filter.

The pool filter sand in our area comes in two different colors...kind of an off white and a tan variety. We're using the off white version in our 300 gallon South American community tank and couldn't be happier. We have dual corner overflows, along with Geophagus winemilleri and haven't had any sand end up in the sump.

I use Hth pool filter sand. Light tan almost white with a similar size throughout. Heavy enough to not get caught in filters and a steal at under 10$ a bag

Pool filter sand is great. If you don't need the buffering from the carib sea brand, go pool filter sand imo...

Another pool filter sand user here. Couldn't be happier. I swapped black sand tahitian moon sand out for white pfs and love the new look.

thanks for all the replies, I think I am wanting to go really white, it will go great with some coral looking rocks I have. But so far everything I see really white is pretty expensive.

I believe Estes markets a completely white sand that wouldn't break the bank if you were only buying a bag or 2 for a 55 gallon tank. I would have have went with it but I needed 250 pounds and my pool filter sand looks white under my
lights
