I've kept pikes on and off for the last few years and have decided that its time to get another one. I've narrowed it down to 3 so which one do you guys like best?

Crenicichla acutirostris (spelling) female
Crenicichla anthurus female
Crenicichla gaucho female

I'm pretty sure I want 1 of these guys but just not sure which at this point.

Acutirostris is a very pretty pike and it's also one of the less aggressive ones. I personally prefer it to Anthurus because Anthurus is a Saxatilis-group pike and pikes of that group are very similar in appearance. Acutirostris can reach 14", though, whereas Anthurus maxes out at 12" (for males only; females are smaller), so you should take this into consideration too. Otherwise it's all down to personal preference. You shouldn't let others decide for you. Follow your heart.

Your biggest problem is gonna be finding any of those pikes. At the moment I don't know of any one that has any that is selling them, or willing to sell them. Scat bought a pair of anthurus though, so you might wanna check with him...;) Basically though, you are gonna be waiting around for a while to find these pikes.

All of those pikes are gorgeous as adults, so either one would be good pick. Acutirostris will stay more slender, and get the most colorful out of all of them, but also gets a good deal larger. Anthurus is probably one of the best looking of the Saxatilis pikes, absolutely love them. They can have a temper though, so be prepared for it. Gaucho gets relatively large, and can be stocky, so you have to choose tank mates wisely...;). Deep bodied is best.

Personally, I think pikes are best kept as PAIRS. They look better this way, just compliment each other. If you just have a solo pike, they are great looking, but just don't seem 'complete'.
