I recently bought a goonch catfish, can anyone kindly know the specific name of this catfish?

Gonna be too soon to tell for sure but if the eyes are round, which they look it to me, you are probably looking at one of the bigger ones. (My money would be on yarrelli in the old naming conventions)
Will be really good to see it grow as not seen one this small for quite a while.

Id say possibly b. Yarelli… i had 6 b. Bagarius (indian highland giants) back in 2012 come in this size 4-4.5” and its def not that lol… the pattern, head shape and whiskers are not comparable at all. I read others mention the sloped head shape is b. Yarelli as well. As

noted the round eyes are a good “tell” for one of the larger species. There is a new larger species recently available. Could be that as this one looks a bit different from the norm of yarrelli and highland giant. I believe the newest available is b. Salwanese (my spelling is off lol)

I got it last August at 7" hes probably about 10" now. Doesnt move much until you put food near him and hes the quickest fish on the planet before returning to statue status.
Love him though great looking fish in my opinion
