Hi all. I have a 100G with 8 tigers. Ranging from 2.5" to 9".

I have always wanted to keeo stingry, but know very little of their compatibility with tigers.

Q1.What is the best species suitable?
Q2. Don't you need RO water for Rays?
Q3. I have heard of big rays eating or attacking small tigers, is this true in anyones experiences?
Q4. If I get one, what size is best to start with?
Q5. Would i have to get rid of my 2 nr. 5 inch phantom L number plecs?or could a ry co-exist with these? I have no other "pure" bottom dwelling fish.

I only know of Motoro Ray, and I saw a small one for sale with a 4 /5 inch disc. Really want to get it, so any advice would relly be welcome. Thanks.

My water and tank conditons:

Nitrite and AMmonia =0
Nitrate = 35
temp = 24
tank has is 14 months mature, (3 externals fluval 405)

A 100gal is actually kinda small for a sting ray, both in foot print and bio load wise...

Rays will eat the dat if it fits in their mouth, so when your ray gets larger, smaller dats might be a problem. Rays grow MUCH faster than dats, but have fairly small mouths.

Motoros are great starter rays because they are hardy, but they get HUGE and will require a bigger tank than 100g down the road.

Hystrix and Retic rays are smaller rays, but still need some good space. True hystrix rays are very expensive now that export is banned.

a motoro or retic is going to be your only cheap option hear in the UK

you wont have any problems keeping them with tigers

no need for RO but you will need to do at least 1 big water change per week

to tell the truth tigers are a great mix with rays

thanks guys. I'm gonna play it safe and not get a ray due to my tank size. My tigers are only get bigger.
Also, to help lower my bio load, I also just got rid of a 5 inch IT, and my 11 inch flagtail, thus keeping the one remaining 6 inch ft, which is much better on its own.:D

probably the wise choice. save up, get a bigger tank and then get a ray :D

I have stingrays with my datnoids and one problem I am facing is that it can be difficult getting food to the rays because the Dats eat it all before it hits the bottom.

easy start feeding the rays food the tigers dont eat like sinking pellets :D

yes, that would be ideal. Unfortunately I don't have the rays on pellets yet but if that's all that makes it to the bottom of the tank, they may start eating those soon. Sorry, not trying to derail here, I've got Reticulata rays with my dats and haven't had a problem so far besides the feeding issue.

Q1. I've had success with reticulata rays.
Q2. Depends on how bad your tap water is but RO water is generally not a necessity for keeping rays.
Q3. I never had that happen.
Q4. No preference in my opinion. You can watch them grow a lot if you get them when they're small.
Q5. Plecos are not recommended in tanks with rays as they can suck the slime coat off the rays pretty easily.
