Looks good.

I prefer sand, because I think thats what they prefer

I like sand as it looks the nices to me, is easy to clean, and is cheap.

Easy to clean? I have to disagree on that one. Sand looks the best out of all the substrate options but it's a pain to maintain. Plus, sand will get into filters and possibly ruinning filters.

I like bare bottom as long as you have some pieces of driftwoods. I also like small fine grade pebbles.

I don't find it a pain at all. Go with a .5-1" layer and you don't even have to clean it nearly as much as gravel because most of the fish poo lays on top and its just as easy as a bare bottom tank to clean up for me. Also, never had trouble with it in filters, just have to have the intakes a little higher up then normal.

I currently have gravel in my tank and to me it's easy to maintain and you have to clean it less often because you don't have to stare at poo on top of your substrate because it sinks to the bottom of the gravel. I vaccum my gravel like twice a month and change the bad water and I'm good to go for a few weeks. I do like the look of sand though and I think that sand is much better for bichirs to lay on than gravel.
