Which substrate would look nicer in a poly tank?

I have a barebottom 240g and I want to put some type of substrate in there for my polys. I have 8 right now in there.

I was thinking about using either black ceramic tile or pool filter sand (from Leslie's Pool Supply). Which one do you think would bring out the colors better in bichirs? Which one do you think would look cooler?

I have pool filter sand in my 125. Looks great and is great substrate, but the bichirs are very light coloured in it. I just picked up Black Diamond sand blasting sand today and started mixing it on. It's made from coal slag. The darker colour should bring out their colours more.
