For the seek of discussion, which sump design is better ?
The water flow from top-down or bottom up, which give a better water flowing, or they're no different ?
the designs aren't much different from one another. the main purposes for the baffles are to create a location to hold media (bio balls, carbon, filter pad, etc..) and reduce bubbles/particles returning to the tank. If you have a lot of bubbles/aeration in the bio chamber area, and not enough baffles, your return pump will send those back to the tank, making your water look cloudy.
the bubbles are usually more of a concern for saltwater, they disipate faster in fresh water, and are larger in size in fresh water.
If you have no plans to place anything like carbon, filter pads, in the second chamber I would not put it in there, just put a baffle on the far right to contain the return pump or pickup/bulkhead
Thanks all for the response.
I guess, the more passage way and more turn and twist the water in the sump, it will help in purify the water much better than compare to a straight-line water flow !
Therefore, the conclusion (if cost is not a factor) we should build a sump tank with as many partition as possible for the same reason.
