for Sa/Ca fish. a standerd 6ft 125. or a 150 that is 5Lx2Wx2H... i know the 150 is clearly more gallons but yea. I have seen 150s only 4 ft, and 30 some inches high... anyway pray that if deal goes through, I will be getting both. I want to expand my fancy goldfish tank and want to start a saca tank. whichever is better for Sa/Ca that is what i am going with through.

ps. my now goldfish tank now is a 75 with 4 midzide fancy goldfish, I may expand to 8 depending on tank and I am not sure on stock for saca tank, I know a jack dempsey and oscar. I may try to fit 2x more mid leveal fish. maybe a GT and turquoise sev

Well what kind of cichlids are you planning on getting and how many? If the max size is 12" I'd personally go 5x2x2 for width and height. And for 10" and under I'd go 125.

It depends on the size of your fish...or the eventual size of the fish when they are an adult. A standard 125 is 18" deep...the 150 you mentioned is 24" deep. So if you have BIG (long) fish...the 24" depth of the 150 would be better for them. But if the fish you will have do not get very large (or long)...then the 6 foot length of the standard 125 may be better than the 5 foot length of the 150 for swimming room/length.

HTH:)

Territory seems to be less influenced by depth than the actual sq ft area. I have watched 8" to 12" cichlids in nature defend and hold similar size territory of approximately 4 sq feet in both 10" of depth or 10' of depth.
I agree with the above posters however, that larger cichlids that reach over 12" such as Astronotus, Caquetaia umbrifura or Boulengerochromis microlepis for example, should have double or even triple that footprint.

So pissed, some people dont know jack about tanks, he told me the mesurment that he was thought they were, the 125, was a 75, and the 150, was a 5ft 120, he wouldnt seperate, and after thinking, I really had no use for either, want 6ft or long tank... so no go, soo pissed atm

I am not getting them, but there is another 150 on there , I dm waiting reply on dimensions. If like the above dimensions. 5x24x24 would a Dempsey, Oscar, and 2 sevrums work

That actually sounds like a nice stocking setup for a 5'x2' tank. I'd personaly add a few (5) silver dollars to the mix for dithers, they're tough, fast and fit the theme of the tank. As always with cichlids you can never predict how they will respond to one another but with that mix in that tank size, if you start them off young; then you should be ok. I would probably pick up a Jack and Severums that were a bit larger than the O, just because of the Oscar's growth rate.

Keep us updated with what you end up buying/setting up!
