So I will be ordering some fish that came from Rusty Wessel(never heard of the guy but apparently he is well known in the cichlid world). I basically want to buy like 6 and set up a small colony of Thorichthys in a 90 along with maybe a robertsoni. He has 3 species which intrest me including helleri, aureus, and maculipinnis(ellioti). Which fish should I get? They all look pretty cool but I have honsetly never seen(or seen very little) pics of an adult specimen so i don't really know which one would be the most colorful. Any suggestions?

I have found that Thorichthys are similar in appearence and dont usually like each other much. They can be tough to keep together, especially in a 90g.

And I think a Robertsoni would be too large and aggressive towards Thors, as they also apear similar.

Then just a pair of one of the above.

I wouldn't add a thorichthys w/ a a. robertsoni if the tank is 4' or 90g. I've had problems w/ the conspecific agression before. You are much better of w/ any crypto or archo w/ robertsoni.
If you aren't getting a robertsoni then i would get a group of ellioti, passoines, or areus.

I really like the ellioti and have been eyeing them for a while in the lfs now. They are beautiful fish in groups of 8+

The robertsoni was just a thought I have no problem not getting it.
Just curious what makes you think the wouldn't get along? I know I have read an article saying that meeki are found in small areas of high concentration in the wild. I know these aren't meeki but being from the same family I thought that maybe the same rule would apply? IDK. Plus I saw this video of two pairs of ellioti gaurding thier fry in the same tank with tankmates. The tank is not too much bigger than 55 gallons.

So far it seems as though ellioti and aureus are favorites.
