Greetings!

I've got a juvi Jag (4") and a White Saum Green Terror (4-4.5") that have been in my tank for just over a month now. The Jag was purchased at around 2.5" and the Saum around 3". They have been growing great so far and appear to be healthy and happy. I do a 50% water change every Tuesday, and every Sunday I do a 50% water change and full gravel vac, so needless to say they are both growing like weeds.

They are fed plain old tetra cichlid crisps twice daily, freeze dried meal worms once daily, and frozen krill once a week a couple hours before I gravel vac (they are messy). They really seem to like the freeze dried meal worms, and they seem like they would be an excellent vessel to feed them some good vitamins, but I really dont want to do anything that could hurt them. What types of vitamins do you feed your fish, or what have you heard of others feeding?

Thanks in advance, and can we please keep it on topic of vitamins and optimal fish nutrition rather than stocking choices aquarium size, or anything else everyone likes to flame on about.

Can we see some pics of these two please?

I don't personally use any vitamins, i think a varied diet contains all their needs. I tend to use hikari gold, bloodworms, daphnia, mysis shrimp, earthworms, crickets often some greens too. And just mix it up.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to use vitamins? I personally cant see much use to them thats all.

Sure, I'll see if I can track down a photo or two. I only have a cell phone cam so they won't be the best photos in the world.

I am only asking about vitamins because I really like both of these fish (especially the White Saum) and want them to be the healthiest and strongest fish possible. It's the same reason I'm on a 50% twice weekly water change schedule with just these two small fish and two giant danios in a 125g tank, same reason my PITA cats only get Organic Cat food and litter... If i'm doing something, I like to do it as well as possible. If I can do something to even make a small difference in their health and appearance, I'd like to do it and do it right.

I don't have a half-way decent pic of the Jag yet. This was actually taken the day I brought him home from the store, it's amazing how much he's (maybe she) has grown since. Already much fatter and healthier, and this photo really does no justice.

Great looking saum!
I would love a white/silver saum, but in the uk they are incredibly rare. I have yet to see one!

I understand what you mean, however, i have never used any vitamins and all my fish seem on top of their game. But i dont see how it could hurt using vitamins.

Thanks for the comment, he's a good strong fish with great coloration already, so I'd just like to do what I can to get him started in the right direction. He was the biggest "green terror" in the tank at the LFS, and the only one with the white coloration, so I had to have it. My lfs had a 3 year old gold saum that was just breathtaking, and it's really inspired me to try my best to do everything in my power to grow him big and grow him right.

There is a strong possibility I need to stop smoking my lunch, but I could have sworn I heard of people supplimenting their fish's diet with vitamins. I've been on here for quite some time, and it was a good while ago, so maybe all of those people who were supplimenting killed their fish with too much Vitamin C and moved on to a different hobby lol.

Give your fish a balanced diet including a top notch flake/pellet with shrimp/krill/blood worms and your fish will do well.

Any decent quality pellet food will contain an ample amount of vitamins & minerals.
The key word being decent .....

I only use vitamins if I have fish in the hospital tank and he isn't eating well. Vita-chem in the water and use to soak the food. Expensive stuff, but it does the job.
