Hello all,
I’m getting a stingray in the coming weeks. I have a couple suppliers to go through and wanted your opinion. I previously ordered a ray from Predatory Fins and it ended up not making it so shipping rays kind of scares me now. I have the option of making a 3 hour drive to pick one up from a relatively unknown source off of Instagram. Another option I have is to order one from Kevin at Stingray Biology which is one of the most well known ray breeders in the states. Either ray I got would be a hybrid and basically the same cost. The question I have is: Should I go with the more well known supplier and have it shipped, or go pick it up myself from a not well known source? I don’t want to lose another ray or any more money lol. I will be sure that both pups are eating before I get them as well

This is the batch I would be picking from if I made the drive to pick them up.

Some breeders will only ship air port to air port next day. Probably to insure the Stingray gets to it destination fast. It would personally take me about 50 mins. to drive there and back in my area. Weather would be the biggest concern for shipping imo.

I say go with the ray you fancy the most instead of who has bred it. An reputable breeder can sell monday specimens and an unknown breeder can sell high quality rays. This aint nothing on kevin at all but simply facts that applies to every breeder there is out there:)

These are the rays that would be shipped in. What do you think? I personally like the bd hybrid look. I believe these are motoro/mantilla hybrid.

That’s how my first ray came in. Shipping from a long distance just makes me nervous.

My personal choice would be one of the blacker ones with less spots on the first pic. The have some knteresting markings and can develope really nice when growing up. But thats just me.
