Ok coming soon i am going to finally turn my 55 into a saltwater. Problem número UNO is idk anything about the filtrating. What would be the best kind of filter I could use be it DIY or traditional.

Most of your biological will come from live rock. That being said, a sump is by far the easiest way to filter a SW tank. Plus it gives you a place to hide heaters and to place a protein skimmer.

you know how you put a heater in the tank? same thing, but in the sump.

So are sumps for salt water only or can they b used for freshwater

a sump doesn't care what kind of water is in it. there can be some minor design differences, but that's about it.
