which would be better for aquarium use? tanks would be outdoors, so no problem if a little noisy.

Generally speaking they are longer lasting and involve less maintenance. Plus they usually are more powerful. Check these guys out as well. Read the notes at the bottom about the various pumps. I love Jehmco.

thanks :) I thionk the resun I posted is different from the linear air pumps.
the compressor i posted is really noisy and generates a lot of heat.
