I have a 55 gallon bowfront (shaped like a cube) that has been running for 2 months now. I can't decide what to put in it. Choices are as follows:

3-4 Jaguar cichlids, growout
1 Leporinus
1 Piranha

Please base your decision on the fact that I am an advanced hobbyist that knows what they are doing, no matter which choice is made.

Since you have stated a single species piranha, I am guessing maybe RHOM(growout) or some sort of SPILO....Personally I go with schooling p's.....Out of the list presented, I would go for Jaguar growout....Since the possibility of owning a pair is high from any cichlid growout, it will be an intresting sight whatching them breed over and over again....

I'd go with the piranhas. I'd think that just a leporinus would be pretty boring.

As far as piranhas go, rhom's or a RBP is what I was thinking. It would be too small for a successful school, so if I go that route it would be just one piranha.

You say that male:female ratios are good w/cichlids? Why is that? If I get the jags it would be just for the purpose of growing them out for breeding.

Bump.

piranha

Why piranha? I'm debating all this in my head, so what makes that one stand out?

My fav is the Jag, but ive seen them literaly strip a tank mate in a day or so, still a nice fish.
