I have two questions. How many of you prefer and use or just use Whisper Power Filters? Also, I have a Whisper 60 on my 20 gallon and I was wondering how to disperse the outflow without cutting back on flow rate?:nilly:
Thanks,
Daniel

I do not like whisper filters. When I do use them I don't use the cartidge at all, but replace with bio media for the whole chamber. It isn't possible to cut back the outflow without dropping the flow rate. If you slow down how much comes out, then all the water will build up and flow over the sides and all over your floor.

they crap out real quick. weak.

I'm not a fan of them, the media is cheap, they don't offer very much bio, and their lifespan seems short lived. I'd rather buy the cheap walmart bio-wheel filters over whisper (those are bad too.)

I have 3 of them laying around, I use them to airate water when I need to raise the temps for some reason.

Whispers are total crud!
The only HOB powerfilter I will use are Hagens AquaClear line.
They have the best flowrate (variable flowrate), can use just about any media, reliable/durable and inexpensive.
I modify my AC's with bio-wheels for the excellent wet/dry filtration.

Marineland's Emperor/Penguin lines are OK too, but I didn't like'em near as well as AC.

These are the only two worth a damn IMHO.

I haven't used Whipser fliters in a long time. I discovered BETTER filters like Penguins and AquaClear. :D

Dayum.

wisper filters totally suck.

i remember when i was stupid.
i had a bunch of wisper filters.
even ran threw quite a few.
upgraded to stronger wispers.
ended up all the same.

angry. fed up. tired.

i used a damn toothbrush to clean the filter. :screwy:
and they got clogged with crud so fast.

frequent filter *** changes.
so much build up, that causes filter malfunction.
and you gotta clean that damned tiny filter box.
rinse the black sponge thing....

thank God.
i met a friend. who told me the proper ways of filtration.
new toys. gadgets. and fishes.
then introduced to me to this wonderful Forum.

now i have over filtration on both my 40 gallons.
and only hang on filter i own, isa penguin 350 [75 gallon filter]~

if anything. just grab an AC110.
[Aqua Clear 110: filters 60-110 gallons]
i heard lots of good stuff about em~

I love my Whisper 60, and I have found a way to disperse the flow. You simply buy Tetra WaterWonders Plants and put the plastic bases under the part that hangs on the frame, then you lift it under and over the lip and stuff it in the filterbox in front of the cartridge. I will post pics later, but this doesn't reduce flow and kinda makes it a wet dry filter.:)

I have whipser 60's on my 55 gal. I have never had a problem with them and have always worked great. Now I am definently not saying they are top of the line filters. I have had these since I got into the hobby about 6 years ago and they are just as quiet and efficient as when I got them. Now when they do take a crap, I will be going to Aqua Clear's.
