I installed my heater inside the HOB. tossed in a few bioballs along the side 4 each side. I know i just lost media room but its a planted tank. Now can the plastic stay next to the heater or will it melt it? temp set at 80. the only thing touching the heater is the bioballs

I'd be very nervious with something meltable touching a heater. I've had things melted by my heaters when they've been outside of water, something touching them, and turned on. I'm not sure it being in water makes it ok for the balls to be touching the heater.

just to be shure i would get a heater guard
thought about it and acrylic tanks dont melt cause of heaters

oh.... is it online only or in stores.

I got mine at a LFS. I bought mine because you can see it in the tank. since yours wont be seen, i would save the money and make one out of pvc. get a small piece of pvc that fits over the heater, not too snug though, then drill lots of holes in it.

not shure its made out of pvc cause pvc melts really fast in hot water
i got some in my lfs
wouldnt take the hassle to buy online really not that expensive shipping would cost more...

The bio-balls i have are PVC..... or was it plastic.. O.o damn got them soo long ago. Well after a few nights i dont see any wear on the balls. Will see what happens... and PVC doesnt melt tell 340F.
