I have a ten gallon freshwater tank, with a fake anemone in it, and for some reason it is covered in white algea, and i cant seem to get it under control. I dont really want to use chemicals unless i have to. Ive got a snail in there that kinda eats it, any other tips? Maybe some kind of critter that digs white algea perhaps???

What filter and filter media are you using? Water parameters?

I'm pretty sure its not fungus, I looked it up online as well as brought some of it in to my local pet store to see what they thought and they reccomended the snail and suckerfish to eat it. At the moment Im using an el cheapo filter i had laying aroung, ive been meaning to replace it when i get some money

well...scratch that...after a little more research you may be right! Although according to what i can find on fungus, its caused by overfeeding, which i only feed them as much as they will eat in a few minutes. unless my roomates are also feeding them!!!! Ill have to have a talk with them...

Remove the fake ornament, and soak it in salty hot water. Don't know what type of filter you have, but never had any problems in my tank with aqual clear HOB filters.

ya i took it out and actually soaked it in a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water, it seems to have worked pretty well, i gave it a good rinse and all the white goo fell off. hopefully it doesnt come back

Might want to use the filter floss to collect the finer particles thus avoiding that phenomenon.

that's why i like aqua clear, got so much room to put diff media and can collect a lot of debris and waste.

I hope your outbreak has ended; usually fungus grow on left over food, or dead stuff inside the tank.

yeah, its been a few days and so far no sign of it. the last time i cleaned it off it was growing back litterally the next day so i think its gone. ive reduced the amount of food i feed, so hopefully thatll keep it from coming back.
