So I have a Leo x bd in a tank by itself at the moment due to injury, the thread is below. I've just realised his barb is white and looking at past photos of him it always has been. Every other ray I've seen/owned has always had a black barb. It's the only one he's got as we'll so it's not due to be shed. Any ideas?

thanks

Usually it's when they lose the black skin coating off the barb. Could be for many reasons.

He could have stung another Ray, happens sometimes, scraped the skin off on decor or substrate, banged the tail sliding back down the glass/acrylic. I would worry unless it has white fuzz. He'll grow a new barb and shed that one soon.

The barb itself is white. Usually what you see is the color of the integumentary sheath that covers it (the toxic part of a stingray). As posted, the sheath can come off for a variety of reasons. Usually due to contact with something.
