Been fishing in Erie for the last three days and so far caught 3 either white perch or bass. I know there's a way to tell them apart with their anal spines but I want others opinions. There's 3 anal spines, two are equal length and one is shorter for all three fish. I'm not sure whether white perch are as plentiful in Erie as white bass but all three of these fish look identical. They seemed a bit big to be white perch though as the PA state record is only about 1 2/3 pounds.
Fish 1) 8 inches, 1/2 pound

Fish 2) 10 inches, 1.5 pounds

Fish 3) 9 inches, 1 pound

In order to avoid me having to make any more of these kinds of threads (lol
) is there a good always correct way to distinguish the two fish apart visually without counting scales?
if it also helps, all three had pelvic spines if I remember right, although the first may not have.
