First of all thanks to all who took many of the "green" Rio Baluarte, Sinaloa Beani a couple monthes ago. Second, attached are pics of what may be the "white" Beani?? I caught 3 fish from Rio San Pedro, Nayarit, about 2 hours south from Rio Baluarte, 20-30 minutes from the coast, and a 10 minute drive North of Rio Santiago. I have a "green" 5" female and 5" male, that Ewok, Gary and Gani have seen, from Baluarte. But this one, the one I am for now calling "white" beani, is a bit differant! Th boady shape is differant, and the big one pictured here came in with a hump, and it is about 3.5-4", with a broader dorsal. Also the lipps are turquoise blue, and there is some turquoise blue spangling on the head, and the color (stress color), is differant. The Balurate came in stressed at a gold color, and these came in stressed at a steel gray color. Now it has a lot of white/gray on it. It is clearly a beani, as that is the only cichlid native to those waters, except for the introduced Tilapia. It is a cool variant, and I am planning on bringing in some soon, before I move onto "Red" Istlanum. Comments please?? Sorry, about the repeated pics. First time attaching pics to site.

Water was medicated, as they had a terrible fungal problem. I cleared them up in about 1 weeks time. I know pics are not so good, but am new at the fish in a tank picture taking thing. Suggestions welcome, to help me improve.

Odds are it's a beani with some slight regional variation. Were all the fish caught in this location the same?

If you want some serious answers about type locality and whatnot I'd highly recommend asking over at The Cichlid Room Companion.

yes all the individuals caught are ALL the same. I know it is a variant...posted. Just wanted to share with all who purchased the Baluarte Beani and everyone else, this, what I think is a cool differant varient...from Rio San Pedro, Nayarit. Thats it, just wanted know what people think of this form, vs. or compared to the "green" varient, that Jose from Texas, Me (Joe) from SoCal and anyone else who all brought back the same "green" form from Mazatlan. No need to go scientific.

The secret to getting good pictures...take a few dozen. Works for me!

seen these in person. definitely different from the green variant some of us have.
the shape is roughly the same, but colors are white and pale blue/grey :)
wish i had some in my tank haha...
thanks for sharing, joe.

I think it is a cool variant. So you gonna get some more of the white ones?
