I just set up my new 29g planted tank :nilly:
I went away for a week and just got back to see my new driftwood all covered in this white bubbly stuff
its all over both pieces and is kinda bubbly :irked:
so will it go away? should i try to remove it?

Definitly need pics. Where did the wood come from? What kind of wood is it? Maybe it is leaking some kind of sap?

I bought a piece of wood from my LFS in the reptile section. I'm pretty sure it was from a grapevine. It too, got a white fuzz. I just took it out and scrubed it with a scrub brush. That was over a year ago. Its still in my tank and my fish are doing great.

I shouldn't say this, but... Go see a doctor.

But seriously, I'ts probably fungus. Usually isn't dangerous, just an eye sore. Sometimes, fish like plecos will eat it, and sometimes it will just go away. Cleaning the wood could help, but it might just come back.

uhhh at the moment there are no fish. just planted
i picked up the wood from my lfs
i heard this happens to most wood? im guessing ill end up just scrubbing it off

It's a Saprolegia fungus, and it will eventually go away. Boiling will just start the process over again. You can scrape it off periodically if it bothers you.
