Theres little white bumps on the new texas cichlids I got. Anyone know what this is? I recently took the carbon out the filter since I was told it isnt good for the fish. Maybe poor water quality is the problem. I dont know how the water is purified with out any carbon.

Nah no pics. At first I thought it was there colors coming in but then I looked close and saw that there not spot but bumps. I think im going back to using AC.

Sounds just like ich to me. Hopefully you know what that is...aka whitespot or ick. Raise the temp and add some salt.

pics would help but its most likely ich or some other type of fungle infection, to clear it up you can simply buy ich medicine or add aquarium salt and raise the temperature to 82ish but once again pics would help to confirm it

Ich, treat using medication via instructions of the bottle (I highly recommend a Protozin based treatment), or via guppy's guide in the Fish Disease and Health section.

Follow the instructions exactly, not "this should be right". Your filter has nothing to do with it either.

Don't put carbon in the filter if you are treating with ich meds.

Isnt ich from dirty or foul water? So making sure my filters doing its part by not just circulating water but cleaning it as well has nothing to do with it? Ive never had this prob till i took the ammonia remover and carbons bags out.

you can have ich in the cleanest water possible (well ich on the fish). It isn't your filter at all, its just you got a new fish and it had it from wherever you bought it. It happens occasionally no matter where you buy fish, so just learn to treat it right because chances are it will happen again in the future. This is also why it is a good rule of thumb to quarantine all new fish, so any disease they have can be treated before it goes into your tank full of your favorite fish.
