some of my fish in my 55 have been getting a white covering on their body and even dying due to it. i always knew ich as white dots all over the body, and this seems to be coming in blotches. i have been treating with rid ich but it doesnt seem to be helping. does anyone know what this is and some ways to get it out of my tank before they all die?

Could it be the slime coat? That could be a good sign that something is irritating them. Hows your water quality?

It could also be body fungus, a true fungal infection. If you have a decent LFS in your area try taking a swab sample in a ziplock baggie to have them do a microscope slide of it. If it is fungus it can be treated with a formalin-malachite green mix. If the whitish patches leave bloody sores behind it could also be costia which can be treated with acriflavive neutral

i got some api aquarium salt today. since the ich meds didnt work i think this may help. is this ocrrect? also could it be fin rot? what are some symptoms of that?
