hey guys i just cought a white crappie the other day and i put him in w/ my florida gar. the crappies is prolly 6-8" and the gar is 12-13" they are getting along great but after i did this i realized "what if the crappie has parasites?" shoud i go ahead and treat the tank? and if so what should i use? also what conditions should a crappie be kept at? the tank they are in is around 75 degrees and close to 7.0 ph.

If you don't see anything strange withing the next couple weeks I would not worry much about it. I have kept lots of wild caught fish and have enver had a parasite problem other then anchorworm (and that's easy to kill).
As for water conditions. Your pH and temp sound fine. Probably the biggest difficulty presented by crappies is that they often prefer live foods, but with a gar I'm sure you're used to that.

yeah thats fine. ive tried to get the gar to eat prepared foods and he wont. so i always have some feeders on hand. ive just heard alot of people that try to keep carapie end up loosing then within the first year. i havent heard any reasons for them loosing them but could i do anything to give him a better chance?

my crappie has a small (looks to be a cut) neer his dorsal fin and a hook mark. whats the best way to help this heal?

Time, food, and clean water. Best method!

You know what, if you're concerned about disease and he's got a nice little cut, Dose the tank with Pimafix and Melafix.

It won't hurt anything other than your wallet.

It could help them fight off anything you may have introduced. A

nd the melafix will certainly help the cut heal a little better.

Melafix doesn't do anything to fight disease. It just helps to heal wounds. If it is really a deep cut than you can add salt or melafix but I wouldn't mess with it because it sounds like it is just a little cut or even just some missing scales.

i have salt added and ive been doing water changes and filter changes so hopefully it heals ok. the cut by the dorsal fin looks almost like its raised up a little and maybe some scales are missing. its also lighter colored than the rest of the fish. but im not really sure that its a cut. any suggestions on what it could be. maybe he jumped and hit the hood?

I really wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like your doing everything right but leave the same filter pads in. You shouldn't really change those that often because that is where most of your benificial bacteria lives and you could actually be doing more harm than good. If the fish is still acting normal than leave it alone and keep the water really clean and feed him alot.
