I've been seeing the occassional white dot on the end of the dorsal fin on some of my fish. I figured it's a bite or something from other fish, goes away after a couple days. Now today, I notice that 3 different fish have it at the same time? Is that a fungus or something. Seems to be getting more common in my tank...Can't post a pic.

So, it's a week later, the fish that had it last week still have it. It looks like a tiny white cotton ball on the end of the dorsal fin. Now my Trimac has it, I think--which is serious--that's my boy. Any ideas?

It's tough without a pic. What are your water parameters? Have you tried treating it with anything?

No, I am very reticent to treat fish with medicine. It's going away now, but this still worries me. I've seen this before on a single fish here and there, but this time several fish caught it.

And one fish also has this. Looks like some kinda growth/abrasion on the lips inside the mouth. Like he's scraped them trying to hold onto something. He does tend to have flare ups with my Jag, but they don't lip lock at all -- not while I'm watching.

I am going with calcium deposits on the fins, nothing to worry about, as for the red lips? not a clue.

Water parameters are all good. Under 20 nitrates, freshwater drip, 0 ammonia 0 nitrite. 79 degrees. 540 gallon tank.

no different per say than the spots you get on your finger nails, just a deposit that will grow out and go away. If it does not then something else but that's what it looks like to me.
