My Oscar has been sulking the past few days not eaten much at all... i just noticed that he`s feces are bright white... is this something to be concerned about ?

Have not changed the diet, and normally all my cichlids have orange feces...

any chance you can smaear some on a slide and either check it out or run it to your vet so they can send it to a lab?

White poop is a common symptom of either internal parasites or internal bacteria. Does the fish appear to have a swollen/inflamed/red anus or sunken/thin or bloated/fat looking stomach at all?

he looks at little fat in the belly region and he seems a bit dosile.
the poop looks like a tube with white suff in it.

Very common symptom of hexamita or flagellates, a food medicated with metronidazole is the best treatment and very safe to use. If you see cork shaped lumps in the feces it is capillara and needs prazi or paracide-d, jungle makes an antiparasite medicated food that will treat both.

thanks guys.... its not looking better this morning :(
When i turned the lights on the first thing i saw, was a white spot on the upper part of the gill cover and on the top of the head. Looks allmost like cotton.... sorry i can`t post a pic. I`ve put him in a Q tank now.
What about the other fish that where in the Oscars tank... are they in any danger of having the same thing ?
Gonna go to the LFS today and see what kind of products i can get ahold of over here, and i think i might have a problem getting him to eat any kind of food/medicine

Really hope the O pulls through, both me and my GF`s favorite fish :(

for some reason seeing several posts on "white poo" has pushed me over the edge
With respect to those who have done this for years and just know what they are dealling with You clue into stuff particularly on your own because of the experience level. You have seen it a thousand times, so you're 95% certain
of what you are seeing and how to treat it
I'm aware that many things are common and can be treated with a shotgun method
and have treated empirically with success
Have also killed 4000 worth of fish going by the book and empirical or what experienced friend said

So while I respect the accumulated knowedge,
I have to see it before I treat it. which i suppose dictates my continuing ed for the next few years lol

Not that I get snotty or irritable but I've been known to ask people if they would like me to look into my crystal ball when they ask for diagnoses or treatments over the phone

Actually doing a smear, stain, and scan is always the best way, unfortunatly..., hard to do over a posted thread. If you are keeping serious fish it is best to get the scope and a few really good reference works:thumbsup:
