I noticed a few days ago the inside of my tank is getting a whitish film on the glass... Is this some sort of algae, or more of a calcium deposit or something?

I'm more accustomed to algae being green, brown, or black, or white hair or thread, not a white film, so I'm not really sure what it is.

My pH runs about 7.6, and the GH is like 300+ (VERY hard tapwater, lots of limestone around here)

I'm wondering about this now too. I assumed it was some type of algae, it comes right off with a magfloat, but I've never really looked into what it is.

Is it like a whitish film that comes off like a dust with the mag float?

I have small white worms crawling on th esides of my tank..Because I agitated the gravel last week for an overhaul though, it goes away within two weeks of constant weekly water changes..........The white "algae" questioned here may be just that, "algae......."Keep scrubbing the sides and do a 25% water change after the wipe.........

That's just the micro flora/bacteria that grows all over everything in the tank. I mag float before a water change and all gone till next time. If you don't clean it before a water change in a few weeks it becomes pretty noticable. Not harmful in any way.

Thanks for the specifics, I figured that it was something harmless like that. I scrape every other week when it's noticeable - no water changes here, 24/7 drip!

I was hoping it was harmless. Need to get a Mag-Float, my tank doesn't get any direct sunlight, but the last few weeks I've had a grow light on my Pothos off and on... That may have triggered it and made it more noticeable...
