Since a week or two i have problems with a white layer on top my watersurface. Because it is a planted tank, i am affraid it blocks out to many light from the lamps. I already tryed huge waterchanges, but within a day it is back. I have also put a outlet of the filter at the surface to break it, but it only helps just around the outlet. Somebody knows what it is and how i can get rid of it?

possible buying a powerhead or two and placing them just under the surface to agitate it and break it up would probably work...

do you clean the outside of your tank?

This could simply be a result from cooking bakon in the morning, having a furnace that leaches a little burnt gas into the air to a number of other things that just tend to get on top of the water. Yes it does interfere with your light as well as gass exchange. They have all glass covers you can use to help prevent it however most people just put a power head and point it to the surface to break the water surface tention.

Yes it's just from poor agitation at the surface. I just blow powerheads and air pumps at the suface to keep it broken up. It's mostly dust settling on the waters surface tension as well as various air born particles.

i did not clean anything or changed something. I try breaking the surface some more, but it is a co2 planted tank with discus so i cant bring in to much current.
