The water in my overflow intake has a white film on the surface. Its like oil would float at the top but its not oil that I know for sure. I put a air stone in the overflow box and it went away. But seems to have caked on to the hose to the air stone. What is it and should I be worried?

Sounds like protein deposits. All tanks have them. You can increase surface agitation or get a protein skimmer.

Will a air stone And put my out put to blow toward the surface work? Is it harmful to the fish?

No it's not harmful, it's just left over deposits from the food, sand etc. an airstone will work and the pointing the output up will work. Airstone on one side, output on the other and it will
Push the deposits towards the middle.

That explains why it's just in the filter and not the tank itself. Most the food gets sucked in the filter
