So i just got my BGK and he was doing good all day. he jumped right into a cave and chilled. So i turn the lights out and hes out swimming and stuff. i step out for 20 min and i come back to see that he is developed a whitish film on him. It seems to cut off at a certain point but im really freaking out. is this natural on day one for these fish or am i doing something wrong. i wish i could tell you guys more but i dont have the testing supplies to get all the info like ph and nitrates. how can i help him?!?!?!?!?!?!

More info: the film is not so much white as it is gray. it looks almost like hes loosing the jet black color he had at the LFS. its just strange that its only the front half of his body. it cuts of at a certain point and you can see a line were it stops. hes in a 29G and is about 3.5'. his tank mates are 4 moonlight guorami. i did get him to eat most of a cube of blood worms but im just really scared hes sick! is it normal for this to happen at night?

EDIT: its strictly his body. his fins look normal and hes just kinda swimming around.

not sure if its normal but from experience...those gouramis will chase him and your bgk might be stressed...also 29 gallons might be a little crowned for those fishes. gouramis are very territorial. did you check your water params too?

I was thinking it could be stress-related as well. At 3.5 inches, some good-sized gouramis could likely push it around especially in a small tank like that. I think a 29 gallon is a good grow out for a BGK that small, but I would probably keep one moonlight, get rid of the other 3 and maybe replace them with a trio of cory cats or something like that. If he had fish in there prior to the knife, the tank is probably already cycled, so I'm not sure if its the water parameters.

well its morning and hes still alive. the other fish are no bigger than 1.5' at the largest and haven't gone after him at all in fact he bothers them more so than the other way around. hes only in here till February when i get my 100G+. I just cant get him to come out to see if it cleared up.... any suggestions for that?

EDIT: It cleared up! thank god!

if the gouramis are only 1.5" and your bgk is 3.5". that might be a meal waiting to happen hehe. careful there
