i've never seen this before i've had the same 90 gallon setup with an oscar for 10 years... today i noticed the back lower half of the glass is getting covered with a white powdery looking algae type pattern.... if u can understand what that means.... i've never seen it before and the water is also a bit cloudy now... any ideas on what this could be? and is it harmless? i know dead algae can be white but there was absolutely no visible algae on the glass prior to this...

Without being there, we'll go with educated best guesses ;).

It doesn't look like filamentous algae?

Water being cloudy indicates an algae bloom, may just not be enough light for greening up.

Ok...Possiblities...

1) Change of food (type, manufacturer, amount).

2) Lighting (daylight being reflected afer furniture or curtains moved)

3) Fish growing and creating a larger bio-load

4) A decrease in filter efficiency (new media, extended time between filter cleanings)

Is the "algae" in the path of the filter return water flow (blowing on it)?

Clean half of it off to check growth rate.

It may have always been there, just not in a peccant quantity.
