Hi,

I just noticed today that there is a layer of white fluffy stuff growing on my rocks.

I read that it is because of high nutrients in the water, my fish do get fed 3-4 Times a day, with cichlids pellets, tetracolor, beef heart and pawns.

It's this a filtration issue? I have an eheim pro 2080 and a classics 2217 on the tank with a36w uv inline.

Is there something I can add to my filter that will kill this off?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

no need to get fussy. I can't tell you exactly what it is or why its there, but feeding 4 times a day is very excessive and it wouldn't surprise me if it did have something to do with it. I would take the rocks out and scrub them, and pick up a more frequent water change schedule.

How many feeds a day then?I have angry fish and was advised to keep them fed so they didn't turn in each other..

I would cut back to twice a day at most, once in the morning once in the evening. Only feed what they will eat too. A bunch of excess food on the bottom leads to poor water quality and may be the cause of the protein buildup. I doubt cutting back to twice a day would be a root cause for any more aggression.

Thanks so much I use floating pellets, only recently got my cichlids,I bought them all then find out that I have the worst combination of fish so was advised to feed loads
