Hello,

I have noticed some white mold like substance growing on some wood in my tropical freshwater tank. I introduced the wood a few months ago, but I have read that the mould can appear on newly established aquariums. This has got me thinking if the bacteria numbers have crashed, although last weeks water tests showed that the water quality is very good.

Basically I would like to know if it could be preventing me introducing new fish as the last couple of attempts have died the next day. In each case the fish have been added carefully and appeared to be healthy.

Any help will be appreciated.

I had the same stuff growing. What I did was take it out, hose it off, and let it set out in the sun to dry for 24hrs.
Been back in the tank for two weeks now and still no fuzz.

i just got rid of mine i actualy brushed it off and used a piece of 3/8 rubber hose to siphon it off the wood, i believ it happens wen the wood is left drie or long periods of time

all you have to do is scrub it off with a wire brush or something and then rinse it off, then youre good to go!

I got a piece of used driftwood with my 55g and it was out of water for about 6 months and finally submerged, just keep brushing it off and it will go away. I don't like letting it dry because you have to water log it all over again. :irked:
