Hi all,

I went to my LFS on Sunday and picked up a few new friends. This morning I noticed that one of them has a fungus on it's nosetip and is breathing hard. Part of the nose may even be missing. I removed it as soon as I noticed the issue and I plan on exchanging it. I'm just wondering what the chances are that the fungus spread to any other fish in the tank given that the sick fish was in there for approximately 30 hours. So far upon physical examination of both the other fish in the tank and my water parameters everything is as it should be.

Hard to say.The infected fish might have had some kind of cut or abrasion which could have taken on the fungus, could have been a chink in it's armor so to speak. If your fish and filter system is healthy and in good condition there should be no problems. You could do a water change as a precaution.

Did a 50% water change. They're chasing each other and acting normal so hopefully all is well. I think you're right about the abrasion given that it looks like part of the sick fish's nose seems to be gone.
