I havent had sick fish before so im not sure what it is or how to treat so coulld someone pease help????? i know this isnt the proper place to post this but iam desperate. thanx guys and gals

I would say treat with salt at 1 tbsp per 10gals just to be safe. someone might have something else to say, I personally havent had to deal with fish illness...

Not a Guru, but I would treat it with Pimafix. It is a good looking fish, nice save.

sounds like a wicked infection of columnaris, Pimafix won't save you now (wow, that sounded way more serious). It was probably caused by stress from unclean water, the unclean water itself, low water movement, and warm water. Not going to try and sound morbid, but this kind of infection will take some work.

Isolate the fish, keep NO original tank water. Slowly lower the temp to 74*F (depending what his temp is at now, a couple of days), columnaris breeds above 76, lower than 72 and it will lower his metabolism so the medicine can't work. Some people leave it at this and do 100% water changes every day.

There is an age old quarantine method that works well for this: 2-5g buckets, every day switch the fish to a new bucket with 100% new water. Clean and sanitize the old bucket when not in use. This prevents any and all transference.

1 TSP per 10g water of salt and lots of aeration are important too, it's hard for columnaris to live like this. You need to fight columnaris on 2 fronts (however, it is possible to just go with 1). Fighting on the inside and out. I follow the directions (for 3-4 days after the disease goes away) for Maracyn (just good ol erythromycin), and I use Gel-Tek Ampicillin food. Both of these are available at petco. Fish usually won't eat the food, so I just soak their normal food in it.

This is a rough disease, but not an impossible one. Just keep up good water quality, follow as many of these steps as possible (not all are a must, just the ideal treatment).

exactky what i said a guru - cassharper - a bump puts your thread on top of the list.

you have fungus on your fish..I had the same thing on my gg.Go to your lfs and get some PIMAFIX.treat once a day and change your water every other day for a week to ten days.it should fall off.remember to take any filter cartridges out of your filter and leave it running to keep the water flowing....good luck...you could try salt, but i recomend pimafix...
