My severum has a cluster of white bumps that appear on his head from time to time. They start out looking almost like Whitehead pimples then kind of open up and almost look jungle. Then the disapear for another hew months only to reappear somewhere else on his head or body for a few days.
It's been going on for years, I've had my red severum for probably close to a decade, and they would flare up on occasion then disappear for long periods. He doesn't seem any worse for wear, he behaves normally and whatever it is has never transferred to any other fish. I cant seem to find anything that resembles this fungus or bacteria on the internet. Any thoughts?

Looks like lymphocystis. Viral in nature. Keep water clean and reduce stress. Hope it eventually clears up and is gone.

I wondered about it being lymphocystis but dismissed it because the only times I had ever seen it on fish it looked more like warts or cauliflower But upon further google image searching I think you may be right. I'm not sure if I'm relieved or not. It's good that it wont really hurt him, but it sucks that there isnt a cure

They have a an anti viral you can buy on line it’s super cheap. It’s a herpes medicine that has been proven to work in fish, cleared a green terror.

Acyclovir I believe. 200mg per 10 gallon for two days.

I’ve never seen a fish prep for it. I know it’s available for humans. Can u post a link Nm1 Nm1 ?

There is no cure for lympho.

From google...

There is no known cure for this virus, though a privately owned fish research and breeding facility near Gainesville, Florida has reportedly been able to suppress the virus into remission using the human anti-DNA virus drug acyclovir at the rate of 200 mg per 10 US gallons for 2 days.

Personally I would just keep the tank as stress free as possible, that's the best way to address lympho. Good luck.

I totally agree on stress free environment. I had a fish with a progressive illness in a stress free environment with no signs of improvement.

The treatment however worked.

At best, anecdotal evidence, and certainly not proof that there is a cure to this viral disease.

I'm glad that your fish is doing better.
