Turquoise severum, approx. 8" TL, owned him for 1+ years
Tank size: 90gal
Tank mates: mixed CA/SA community, couple geos, myrnae, gold sev, yoyo loaches, and barbs
Water parameters: 0/0/15-20ppm, NH3/NO2/NO3, ~79F, tanks has been established for over 1 year

Nothing new has gone into this tank in months.

My severum has developed two raised whitish spots or lumps on his body. Please see the pics. I have seen something similar to this before in fish at one of the lfs in my area and it seems to spread to the tips of the fin rays.

Over the last month I have euthanized two arulius barbs from this tank because of what appeared to be some sort of paralysis or broken spine, where the barb would swim differently, swinging its head back and forth.

I am worried that I may have fish tuberculosis in the tank. What do you all think? Have you seen and/or treated this before?

Thanks,
Burt

It looks like a Bacteria That somehow Entered the tank. Your water looks clean so I din't think that's the Problem. Treat it with a Medicine that is Not Really STRONG!

I think this is the same parasite that affected my rare knife.. he passed away because it was very hard for me to medicate since he was scaleless and fragile... but your fish should definitly be treated with a parasite med in a small tank..preferably 10 or 15 gal to make it easy to treat the tank..

Thanks for the responses and ideas.

I am going to go to the fish store where I have seen this before and see if they know what it is or if they have successfully treated it.

The problem is no proper diagnosis is done and it is not advisable to treat unless you know what exactly the problem is.

100 % TRUE..always make sure of what your treating.. and clean "looking" water still holds many parasites and bacteria that the eye cannot see.. The professor diagnosed mine as an encysted parasite perhaps a trypanosome type.. he said for me to use Melachite green or methylene blue but he added that with any medicine to be "careful"..~

My severum has had similar white marks on him but did a water change and they were gone by second day probably not same thing though. Love that knife fish he looked amazing sorry to hear he died.

I dropped by the LFS today and they suggested that it could be a bacterial infection but were not certain. They also suggested that the problems with the barbs could have been due to them jumping and hitting the glass lids during the night and physically injuring themselves.

On inspection this evening, the spot near the sevs tail has disappeared, although the other one still exists. No other fish have been affected.

I will continue to monitor the situation and continue to use Melafix. I have used Melafix in the past to treat split fins etc. and it seems to have no negative effects when used as a general treatment.

Thanks for the responses!

Seems to be some sort of condition but early measures were taken. My angels sometimes get small white spots on thier pectorals but usually its gone within 2-3 days.
