I am having a really weird white mite like bug that is smaller than the tip of a pin and there are literally thousands of them. I tried taking pics but I couldnt get a good picture of them just way too small. The closest thing I could think they looked like was the mites you find on milipedes. The place where they originated from I think was my mealworm colony which I trashed(thankfully I have a backup colony) This colony was next to my ig's enclosure and now they are starting to cover it as well. They are not getting on the ig just everything in his enclosure. They also seem to be really attracted to his food. I treated the cage and everything around it and it killed the ones I saw. Does anyone have an idea what these are? And what I can do to get rid of all of them and prevent this from happening again?

I always thought white mites were a type of plant mite. The only kind I've ever encountered on reptiles are the red ones.

Well that is the thing they arent on the animals just on the enclosure and all of the decor inside. And I had never dealt with white mites period.

I know perfectly what your talking about, the culprid its the mealworms box wich in serious need of being cleaned. Thouse mites are more of a estetic problem then a hazard, they arent parasitic of reptiles, get a paper moist with some alcool (carefull with basking ligths) and without your ig being in the cage rub all corners. I dont recomend you applying insecticides, with great cleanliness and dry condicions they wont last long.

That is kinda weird I cleaned it out like a month ago but I do have too small of a container for the amount I have in there probably I guess I need to get a bigger one. So what exactly is it that causes them to thrive and why do you think they just all of a sudden had a population explosion?

Iiiii don't know about putting insecticides in the tank. As for whats recommended for mites in snake tanks, use diluted bleach. Wash thoroughly!

Uneaten food and too much moist.
