Cycling my new tank right now its been running since Sunday. I'm doing a fishless cycle and added ammonia to bring up the level to about 4-5ppm. and just yesterday I bought some Seachem Stability to try and added my first dose yesterday. Came home from work today and turned on the lights only to find this white mold looking stuff on the rubber suction cup of my heaters. Its no place else (yet) but there. What is this? It's not part of the cycle im guessing or is it? If it's bad what should I do? I tried to get a pic but it's kinda hard.

Looks like hair algae, That's pretty quick for a bare tank.

What did you pre-treat the water with?

What's the chemistry of the tank?

Much phosphate in your tap water?

I treated the water with API water conditioner and Seachem PH 7.0 buffer and that was it. And I use both of those bottles on my other tank which is running fine. No different water than my other tank.

Ammonia is 4-5ppm, nitrite 0, nitrate 0, alkalinity 80ppm, ph 7.0, hardness 75 ppm. I don't have the test kit to check for phosphates but I don't see this tank being any different since my other tank is fine with the same water.

I've since cleaned out the mold the best I could and I think I got rid of it. I guess I'll find out if it comes back but hopefully not. Still dunno what caused it.
