White moonlight LEDs?

Everyond uses blue LEDs for their moonlights but I think white ones would be more realistic. What do you guys think?

I have blue on my 75g and white on my 30g. The white is pretty intense on the 30g and I should swap them. I really like the blue even if it's not realistic.

I run 6 - 8k "white" leds on my tank. 8k looks more like natural moonlight to me.

I think white resembles day too much. The daylights should be yellow then if it's going to be accurate.

I don't have any pictures, as the lighting is so weak a camera won't capture an accurate picture. I have the "moon lights" are tied to a controller that provides a monthly Moon phase simulation so their intensity varies on a nightly basis. I know that may sound a little extreme but various tetra species that I keep seem to breed more often because of it.

Moonlight is 4,100 - 4,150k but that also depends on where you are in the universe!


1,700 K Match flame 1,850 K Candle flame, sunset/sunrise 2,700 - 3,300 K Incandescent lamps

3,000 K Soft White compact fluorescent lamps 3,200 K Studio lamps, photofloods, etc. 3,350 K Studio "CP" light

4,100 - 4,150 K Moonlight

5,000 K Horizon daylight 5,000 K tubular fluorescent lamps or Cool White/Daylight compact fluorescent lamps (CFL)

5,500 - 6,000 K Vertical daylight, electronic flash

6,500 K Daylight, overcast 5,500 - 10,500 K LCD or CRT screen

15,000 - 27,000 K Clear blue poleward sky

The leds are just garden variety 5mm water clear leds.
