Any idea on what this could be? I'm gonna move this fish out to a QT tank and start salt treatment immediately (well in four hours as I gotta go to an event).

I thought the tail had just gotten fin nipped before as it looked weird in that tail area before but I was gone for about and when I looked today, I saw these white nodules are new.

I tested the water and the nitrates are still under ten (it seems the same as when I'd water change it at 6-7 days. It's been 10 days since my water change and I guess the algae consumes some of the nitrate).

Looks more like a bacterial infection, probably stemming from an injury.
I’d treat with an antibiotic like kanaplex.

+1. Also try some methylene blue application to the area.

I have kanaplex. Does Ick X have methylene blue? I have to look at my bottle. So treat with kanaplex right away in the QT tank? I've doing a water change on the tank now and trying to catch that fish.

Kanaplex can safely go in the main tank, but still best to do in qt.

Okay, he's in a QT tank. First treatment just started. It says do up to three treatments max. I guess I'll see how he looks in two days after the first dose.

Thanks for the feedback.
Generally you see results quickly with kanaplex, but also don’t be surprised if it takes the full course of treatment. It takes a while for some infections to clear up. If the first round doesn’t do anything, don’t stop until the full 3 rounds.

Not the same lighting as the original pics were taken in the main tank and this is in the QT tank but I think it looks better after the first treatment. I guess I'm adding the second treatment.PXL_20240323_200943019.jpgPXL_20240323_200701435.jpgPXL_20240323_200425028.jpg

Edit:
Yeah, even when I shine light direct on it, it appears the white blistering has lessened, if not disappeared.
