I just noticed a little patch of white on my sens nose. Almost looks like a callous. He bumps into the wall a lot and into structures, but its only on his nose. I'll try to get a decent picture but he's bring frisky and won't stay still. Anybody have any input or ideas? Water parameters are fine.

This is the best I can do. Glare caused it to be brighter than it is. uploadfromtaptalk1344882817939.jpg

well since you said that the bichir has been bumping himself at walls etc. it can just be the skin was scraped off as a result from multiple collisions. its temporary and should heal up in a couple of days.

just use Stress Coat+. IME, i used it before and it healed in a day or honestly. because stress coat no only helps promote healing, but it also calms down the fish.

i hope your senegal gets better :)

and what size tank is it in btw? and how big is the senegal? those two can be a factor too

55gallon and he's maybe six. He's so blind, but if I sit at the end of the bed by the tank he always comes and says hey

bichirs have poor eye sight. they find their food through their "antennas" (i call it that haha). they also find food in the dark and see better in the dark. it takes time for bichirs to get used to the light.

but try to lessen the decoration though so your senegal has more room to swim around. it may be a a 55 gallon, but with alot of decor, itll feel like a 10 gallon lol.

good luck man and hope for the best with your senegal :) and as long as he's eating fine then it shouldnt be a problem

He ate seven small feeders. I'll bet it happened while I was trying to pull two fish out this morning. Likely spooked him.

i see... btw have your bichir eat small chunks of tilapia and/or frozen bloodworms. its better for him, healthier and hell grow faster

Yeah I have him on a varied diet. Every two weeks I get feeders. I wouldn't want his killer instincts to get rusty :p

i wouldnt recommend feeders because sometimes, those carry diseases and/or parasites and can kill your bichir. my friend had a violet goby before and when he fed it feeders, it died from a transmitted disease

I get my feeders from a very reliable lfs. They are always healthy and I quarantine them for a week. Hell one of them has actually managed to survive for four months in my tank. Cho just won't eat him.
