Hi
Hello all,

Has anyone had this happen to their poly's? I have a bunch of big Endlis and Kolibas that are slowly developing something like Hole in the Head disease. At first, I thought it was just scratch marks from their going under the driftwood, but it's obvious that there is something happening on their heads. There are white patches around every sensory hole on their heads, and it is getting worse everyday. I've started to do massive water changes-100% every other day, but I haven't slowed it down. They still eat, but not nearly as much as before. Some of them are starting to get listless too. Could this actually be HITH? Should I start trying some meds, like metro? I wonder if it could be diet related? I feed them frozen shrimp or pieces of fresh fish every other day. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can yuo get a picture?

Never seen anything like it, but it's more than likely some sort of infection. I see that the one with it's face just out of frame looks to have bloat because the scales look like they're protruding.

I would start treatment with Maracyn2, and if it doesn't get better over the treatment period, try maracyn1, and again, try different Mardel product if neither of those work.

what's your WC schedule like?

Water changes were 80% everyweek before the outbreak. Since then, I'm doing 100% every other day. I don't think the fish are bloated. All inhabitants have been fine for close to 12-18 months. This is a recent problem.

Bacteria/parasites/fungus/etc... don't care how long you've had the fish. Since you didn't mention any new fish, the next logical suspect would be your water supply.

Are you on a well system? Do you live in Hawaii?

Just trying to help.

a 100% wc is the water all new water if so how is it already cycled and such that maybe part of the problem. I would do a 80% wc at most.

are you feeding live foods ? if so, did you QT the feeders ?

What are your parameters ? Your nitrate should be good due to all the WC, but how is ammonia and nitrite ?

I don't think the ammonia is high-plus I haven't fed them for a week and a half. All of this is unknown because I don't test. It's obvious that I need to start doing it, as it's hard to troubleshoot without this info. They are fed frozen shrimp or fresh fish (salmon, tuna, etc). I do not use feeders.
