After i do a water change (30-50%) I notice that everything in my tank that was exposed to air above the water line turns like a hazy white when i refill with water. Also, within 30 minutes of a water change the water looks cloudy.

Ammonia zero
Nitrites zero
Nitrates 20ppm before water change
100g tank

Thanks.

What is your water source? It may just be air bubbles trapped in the water.

Mine gets bubbles on the glass for awhile after a water change on the section that was exposed to air, it goes away after a short time though. Is the stuff slimy or anything?

I'm just using water from the tap. I'm making sure the temp is within a degree or two of my tank.

It's not air bubbles. It's almost like dust particles stick to the tank and anything above the water line that I have drained. I have to actually rub it to make it go away. If I don't do anything to it, it will take up to 6 days for it to disappear. The haze within the water also disappears within 24 hours, and the tank is clear. Throughout the week the make ammonia and nitrates stay at 0, and nitrates rises to about 20-30ppm.

Is it algae dying on the sides of my tank? There are no green spots, but the water in the tank looks light tint of green. My tank only receives natural room light, and the sunlight does not directly hit the tank.

How long has the tank been running for ?
What size tank ?
What type of filtration?
Stocking density of the tank?
Type of bio filtration?

Chlorine shock? Do you mix new water and dechlor in the tank when refilling or mix and let it sit before refilling? Mine has gotten fuzzy before when I have treated as I refill the tank instead of using a bucket.
I know at one point I gave up and bought RO water for the summer because whatever the city was using to treat it was causing it to stink like bleach and sulphur when I treated it and made the glass get white fuzzy slime. We had really bad drought that year too.

I would try a water change with RO water and see if the same results occur, just to rule it out.

Yeah, I add dechlorinator into the tank first and then add the tap water. That could be it, and one thing that has been different in the past year is that the city has decided to add fluoride to the water. It's sort of slimy when i touch it and everything that is dark, black acrylic background, stealth heaters, inlet tubes to canisters turn to a hazy white. I dont get a sulfur smell either. I'll try out what you suggested.

Thanks for the help, I think you've solved my problem. :D

What I have seen with slimy coating like you have described, is tank parameters still establishing themselves. Double check ammonia and nitrite readings. What brand dechlorinator are you using ? Are you using enough, because I found on average 50% of the time, more dechlor is needed than reccomended dosage due to water treatment chemical concentrations chanaging depending on the season. Most noteable is the chloramine concentration which is now the prefered anti bac water treatment in most western countries.

I check parameters every week, and its still the same for ammonia and nitrites = 0. With the 50% water change, I use the Dr fostersmith Neutralize brand for the dosage of 50 gallons, and then I follow up with Kordon NovaPlus for the heavy metals. I'll switch to prime and see if that helps.
