I have a pair of 6-7 month old fh's that are breeding, eggs have been laid and removed, not worried about all that. What concerns me is that the morning after egg laying I noticed white poo in the tank. Have always done, and still do 30% water changes weekly along with maintenance of the biowheel 350 and magnum 250 (55 gal aq, btw, yeah yeah too small, I know). Have never had any white poo in the past, any correlation with the breeding? Really don't want to use any chemicals, so far have only salted the tank, any suggestions?

I told you brother........ parasites (internal) not necessarily a symptom of one specific ailment. You would do better to post in the disease forum or first search white poo for prior posts.

If it looks like a string of pearls its Hex, use metro. Internal parasites as posted above, and stress can cause the outbreak, breeding could/would/should be the source of the stress. Now all you ned to do is figure out which one it came from. i would recommend fasting them both for 2 days at least after seperation to help pinpoint and or possibly eliminate this problem, meds are not always required to fix this.

me also facing this problem with white stringy poop.
i am fasting him for the past 2 days.today i tried to feed him boiled pea dipped in garlic
He refused it.i got it from my friend and he was saying that due to lack of time to take care the fish was on shrimps fed my his mom :O.may she over fed him.:(
poor fish.
he is 5 inch long and now the KOK is started to shrunk.:(
what is metro and how to use it.
can u give any comman name

Metrodiaznol, in table or pill form. Directions are on the container.
Overfeeding and poor water quality are both prime causes and the Flowerhorn is VERY suceptible to this, more than any other fish i have kept.
Best of luck.

Not all "white poo" spottings mean Hex or disease.. if it is long and stringy and continuous then it can be parasites... i would just keep a close eye on the fh's and ensure the poop is brown and add some salt after each water change and bump the temp. if you see it when it is pooing the white poop and it stays in their butt for a while before detaching then treat using Metro or Refish. Metro is easier to find so i would suggest that...

Treat as per the bottle instructions for 7 days in a smaller tank so you use less meds. add salt and bump temp to 32* after 7 days do a 50% water change and monitor. If problem persits re treat.

good luck

So I had just bought a lot of "treats" and was enjoying watching the fh's devour them, turns out too much. I eliminated them for a couple days and the poo returned to normal. Fh's like people and when fed an undigestable amount of fat their poo turns white?
