"white saum" green terror!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very nice saum! ;) Congrats on the pickup.

but it's not a True GT or Aequidens Rivulatus....

Gold saums come in the orange or "flametail" variant and that variant you have with the white edges instead of orange. Very nice if you can find them since they are rarer.

IMO I still think these guys are nicer looking than the real GT. Just me though. Real GT would be cool to own too.

It is a very nice GT. Not the true GT though, it is a Silver Saum.

How can you tell if a GT is a Gold Saum, or a Silver Saum? Not many LFS can tell me if the terrors they have are either or. Infact most of them look at me like a weirdo when i ask them. Could someone tell me how to identify or differenciate the two, or three? Thanks

Most likely they're all saums :grinyes: Gold saums would be the ones with the orange tail...the white tailed ones are sometimes called white/silver saums. Technically, they are NOT Green Terrors.....but petstores still call them that so everyone still calls them Green Terrors. Gold Saum would be the more legit name for them.

The name "Green Terror" came from the original Aequidens Rivulatus that is really a mean fish. It dissappeared from the hobby some 15-20 years ago. I think the reason is, in the fish market, dealers would rather grab the Gold Saums which are easier to get from Ecuador, Guyana etc., they look more attractive to buyers, and are less aggressive making them compatible in consumer's fish tanks....as opposed to the Real GT which are harder to get a hold of, they live in a kinda hostile area of Peru, are less attractive and meaner.

I haven't seen any Real Green Terrors for sale. Only Jeff Rapps online.

Saw the pic on Rapp's site. Looks pretty plain.

Yeap, if I ever setup my dream cichlid community tank (realistic dream :D , just a 180-350 gallon tank), i'd grab one for it. Throw in a Saum as well.
