Hey all. I have never ran air hoses in my tanks before but I recently set up a 33 gallon grow tank and it has been up and running for about a months now. I noticed within the last week a white slime on an air hose that flakes off easily into hundreds of pieces when rubbed. I looked on the web and some thought it was mold. Others thought it algae. Some thought it was the slime coat of beneficial bacteria and many simply said that they don't know and they just clean it off every once in a while. I figured somebody here must know what the truth behind this slime is and how I can get rid of it. Please let me know what you know.

It could also be mineral precipitate from your water. It sounds normal so I wouldn't worry about it. If it is fuzzy and grows larger than it is probably mold, especially if that is where you add food to the tank.
