white spider web like stuff off stingray

When my ray was shaking of sand from his back and went up the glass after a water change some spider web looking stuff was comming of his stinger or around the tail area. anyone have an idea what it was?
 
Its waste\**** ;) Ive said in another thread that i have never seen my rays poo, i did yesterday, and now i know what they mean about rays producing alot of waste :)
 
I have seen my ray poop it looks alot different, large red massivore ball type of poop. this was web looking strings that floted around and dissolved. I think it may have something to do with his stinger as a new one seems to be comming in under his current one. not sure tho???
 
i feel like yr right with the stinger thing. I havent ever seen this spider web like stuff until the last past week or so and my ray is shedding his stinger. ill just wait and see how long it last till the barb actually pops off. sorry to post a question in another thread but how long does this process take? my ray has had these two stingers comin out of his tail for like 2 weeks now.
 
It could be some of the slime coat...if after a water change then check the ph of the water that you are adding compared to the tank and maybe try a different dechlorinator as it could be stress related.

Check the tank for usual ph ammonia, nitrate and nitrite just to be sure.

You need to get to the bottom of what caused the ick as it is normally an indication of stress which is often due to poor water quality.
