The pH in my ten gallon tank was very low yesterday, so I put a little pH Up in the water (not much at all) hoping that it would go up slowly. Today, I noticed my two inch Senegal bichir has a fluffy-looking white spot on its back. It's the only fish in the tank. I will post pictures in a few hours, but if I've given enough information, does this sound like ich?

If it's fluffy it could be fungus.. typically this looks like a white fuzz. Was there any scratch or wound on the fish? Sometimes a fungus can appear on open wounds. Look forward to seeing the picture for a proper analysis.

I doubt its related to the pH incident other than perhaps stressing the fish out and therefore maybe weakening its immune system. From what I understand its better to have a non-ideal pH (within reason) rather than have a constantly fluctuating one. Fish are pretty sensitive to any changes in water parameters and this can be stressful.

Keep an eye on the pH. If your tap water is close to the pH you would like, then ideally try to adjust the tank pH slowly by waterchanges to bring it closer to that of the tap water rather than using pH changing products.

I have a few pictures, but neither are of very good quality, I'm afraid. There was no wound but there were two small red spots on its side (these aren't near the affected area). I've been having real trouble with my ammonia levels too, could this have contributed? Thank you for your help.
