I have a red oscar in my 55g and I noticed this morning that he has a white spot below his mouth. Any idea of what this might be? Started to treat with melafix and just wonderin if there was anything else I could do?

pics oudl be a definite plus, but are you sure the bonehead just didnt run into something?

can we see a pic??

I agree a pic would be nice...

Melafix is good if there is a fungal problem in the tank. What else is in the tank with it? There is a possibility that it is just an injury from fighting with another large fish... if you have another oscar in there it is a possibility that they could be going mouth to mouth for either dominance or spawning...

if it is a wound, someone on here suggested to me VitaChem, and preffered the salt water variety, to fix the fishie... its help my oscar thus far, since it had some battle wounds from a crazy ahli that eventually killed itself.. but just my 2 cents, and if whoever esuggested that reads this, thanks, its helped.

OK oyu guys knew you would hear frome me....

I would put salt in the tank at 1 cup per 30 gal and maybe move the heat up a little..... maybe 80. The salt will help no matter what med you choose.

Dont forget a water change! :D
